 NEXT MEETUP
 20 Oct 2015
This one isn't really conducive for a meet up, but it is in the middle of the freeway, which shouldn't be too bad. Oh, technically, it's in the Baltimore Graticule. McKay (talk) 11:14, 20 October 2015 (EDT)
 Sept 24-26 2015
Anyone active around here? I will be visiting the Eastern D.C. Grat in the Waldorf, MD area. My friend will be teaching during the day but I'll have a car if anyone can meet up. I'm not sure what we have planned for Saturday, but it might be a bike ride somewhere. We are going to watch the World Cycling Championships in Richmond on the 23rd and 27th. I'll be driving home on the 28th. Send me a message on my user page if anyone wants to meet up. Pedalpusher (talk) 09:09, 21 September 2015 (EDT)
 20 Sep 2015
This one is in the road in Suitland. Easily accessible. I don't live here, but I might be interested in heading out if there would be a meetup or something. McKay (talk) 11:14, 18 September 2015 (EDT)
In the middle of a field west of Gainesville. There probably isn't anything growing in the winter, but we could try to find the farmhouse and ask permission. Anyone interested? --CustomDesigned Jan 5, 2013 11am
 Thomcat in Town
Anybody want to improve their Thomcat number ? Perhaps just get a head start on the proposed Networking Achievement? Today is Thomcat's last day near DC, and I'd be keen on a lunchtime meetup if the point is good. In half an hour, we'll know for sure... --Thomcat 09:01, 8 June 2012 (EDT)
- Pity I'm not flying out of Dulles, because the geohash is right there! Leaving the hotel (and my internet connection) in a few hours, so ping my user page if you want to have lunch together. --Thomcat 09:37, 8 June 2012 (EDT)
2012-04-21 - Anyone interested in Falls Church?
This building is right across from Hillwood Ave in Falls Church...I wonder if we can get permission to get on the roof? Anyone interested? Travis Low
- At the very least, you should be able to get get something from the grill. :) -- relet 04:45, 21 April 2012 (EDT)
Feb 11, 2012 was at Reid Pond (a flood control pond), right on the access path. SDGathman 22:13, 11 February 2012 (EST)
- Did you make it to the hashpoint? Jiml 00:34, 12 February 2012 (EST)
is there anyone in the area who would be willing to do a meetup sometime in the next few weeks at the saturday meetup time? I wanna give this a try before i go back to school! (posted july 27, 2010)
First Time Hashing 13 Aug 2011
The hash for today is out near my parents house in Manassas. Despite today's rain, I'm planning on being there and maybe I'll drag along one of my brothers. Bonus points, if we can break out our laptops we can play the game I developed for my CS class: Daunting Dungeons.
 Geohashing Day - May 21, 2011
May 21 will the the 3rd Aniv of Geo hashing. Is there anyone still active and interested in setting up a group meet-up?
Rally to Restore Sanity/March to Keep Fear Alive
Is anyone planning on Geohashing that day? I'll be flying in for the rally, and figured there's a good hour between the March and the official meetup. David Souther 22:03, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
 First Geohash
We went to the Northern Neck today, without even realizing that such things usually occur on Saturdays. We'll know better next time, I suppose. Still, a fun road trip!
..is everything. I think I missed something. Is there a set time for meetups--or buzzes? --John
The official meetup time is 4pm on Saturdays, but any time agreed upon is a meetup time. I'm not aware of any arrangements other than the 4pm one around here. ~EpeeGnome
Awesome, thanks. Leaves me time to sleep.
 Default meetup location
Is there any demand for a default coordinate to meet up at, barring any other worthwhile hash point? - Cerulean 14:56, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Does anybody know any good resturaunts very close to the graticule "four corners"? (here) I did a cursury search but nothing stands out. I dont know the area so I am not sure. I would be happy to participate in a 4pm Saturday "venue search" to find an official default point near the meeting point of all four DC graticules. -Chuck
We had a bit of trouble finding a restaurant in the immediate area of the four corners. Ended up at a Taco Bell several miles away. That aside, a default coordinate at a fun location sounds optimal to me. -EpeeGnome
I support this idea. Nathan 22:48, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
Location for today is out in the middle of the water. Closest land is on Navy property, but if there's anyone interested that can't get on base, St. Mary's City Historic Park (Forest?) is a viable choice, as well as St. Mary's College.
Eastern location looks like it's next to a bunch of sweet looking powerlines. The danger is tantalizing! Anyone thinking about going? Sky7
How do I find out what the coordinates are??
 March 7, 2009
The DC meet up for 3/7/2009 is far from the Metro area. Anyone feel like trekking?
In Reston? I plan on being there. Nathan 23:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
Showed up an hour late; vehicle problems. Dunno if anybody was there at 4 anyway... Nathan 21:55, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
 February 28, 2009
DC East is in a park this week near the Landover Metro Station - a pretty ideal location, really. Still, might be a bit cold and/or rainy. Anyone going? --Tom
The park point is for Friday. Saturday, meet-up day, is far down on the Northern Neck. -- Chuckrex
 February 14, 2009
2/14 location for DC West is inside the Beltway. Anyone going?
I plan on going. Just to check, though; at what time on Friday are the official coordinates revealed? The one tomorrow is just inside Huntley Meadows Park, right? I'm bringing a deck of cards, blanket, kite, and possibly a hammock or pair of stilts. Lost my frisbee, though. -Tom
I will probably go. Official coordinates for a specific day are released at the most previous opening of the Dow. For weekdays, this is the day of. For weekends, this is the Friday before. The NYSE opens at 0930, so this is when the Dow's opening price is announced. Mohrr 17:46, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Update: I'd like to submit that I really genuinely did try to come, probably with more resolve than was entirely sensible. At 2:00, I looked up the time I should leave if I wanted to use public transportation to get there by 4:00 - and it told me that I should have left a half hour ago. This is odd, since I live on the Yellow line. Turns out the Yellow Line was a mess and they had a shuttle running, so it took an hour and a half to get that far. I was still in decent shape, only twenty minutes late or so, when I arrived at the park and was informed that there are no bikes allowed in the park, and so I'd need to go all the way around the park to reach it. Oh well, maybe next time. -Tom
 Saturday January 10
The location for the saturday meet-up is very close to the Metro area - right off Rt. 50. Let's reactivate the graticule and get some people there at 4. Probably in the front parking lot of the building, since the actual spot is in a fenced lot (looks like a car impound lot - kinda fun, huh?) There are several places nearby for after-meetup socializing.
I hope to see you there-
 October 11th
Is anyone going tomorrow? It's far out but accessible by a bus from Shady Grove...it appears to be in the middle of a golf course..... - Megan
 September 27
I propose meeting in the cul-de-sac east of the hash and hiking out together if possible. Anyone else interested? - Chuck
Oh, crud. I skip checking the coordinates for a couple of weeks and it turns out there was one near my house in my absence (about 2 miles by twisty neighborhood roads - can't get there as the crow flies). Unfortunately, I was out past Leesburg at the time of the meetup and couldn't have made it anyway. --Frumious
 Saturday September 13th
Anyone hashing today?
Hmmm. DC East looks very nice. Centrally located, public access, parking not to far off. I'm tempted. Who else is going? ~EpeeGnome
It's also right by a Metro Station. Now there's no excuse. I'm going. Everyone go! Also, I'll probably be 30 minutes late, so if you go, wait up a few before heading out. ~EpeeGnome
Was this any good? I've been meaning to finally get to go out and do this thing for forever, but work keeps getting in the way :( - Megan
This one was actually kind of sketch. Hmm. Looks like people are interested again. I should start watching this page again. ~EpeeGnome
 Saturday August 9nd
I propose that DC use the Fredrick, MD point for the Saturday meet-up. It's closer and more interesting. Any thoughts? - Chuck
I would be interested in the Frederick point, but it looks like parking could be problematic. Thoughts? -EpeeGnome
The building/lot to the west is the obvious choice, does it look accessible?
(moved from Recently Visited Locations) Let's try the Frederick hash point. 39.091382°, -77.058595° It's closer to DC. Expand your grat! -
 Saturday August 2nd
None of our options look too great this weekend. The SW graticule doesnt even have good map coverage on google. It looks like it is just off a road, but 1 1/2 hours from Metro DC. SE is in water, and the two north points look to be in private property. If nobody is going, I am going to the Baltimore graticule. It is closer, and I like the idea of hitting each one in the DC area.
 Saturday July 26
I'd say this weekend could be a little challenging. Since the hash point is near the center of the graticule, and Washington is near the corner of two, none are particularly close to Washington. DC East is not far from me at all, but I don't have a boat. In fact, DC west and Baltimore are water hashes too. The nearest (for I think a majority of us) is Frederick. This week I'm really tempted to just move the point to a nice, central spot, something the Baltimore people can get to also, and have a non-hash meetup. I have proposed an alternate location on the map which should be accessible and central. Any takers? EpeeGnome 25 July 2008
Ok, so I'm going to my proposed alternate spot (39, -77). Two of my friends in the area are also going. The exact corner of the graticule falls in an apartment building, but it is a very accessible area, with plenty of parking in the park just East of it, and lots of sidewalks connecting them. We should have no problem getting close. There are also plenty of eateries in the area. I know it doesn't count, but it's a convenient spot for a lot of people. We'd love to meet up with some of you there. -EpeeGnome 26 July 2008
I think a food location nearby would be better than the apartment building. If we are going to deem it so, let's deem someplace more fun. -Chuck, 8/1/08
 Saturday July 19
I am going to try for the East Graticule. The West is Lake Anna; perhaps easier but duller. Also, Lake Anna has leeches. So I'll try the Northern Neck. Looks like it is off a road and down a power line easement about 1/3 a mile. - Chuck
For DC locals, there's a passable location in the Baltimore graticule instead. It's in a residential area, but we could arrange a meetup for nearby West Laurel Park, just a block to the southwest of the hash. - Cerulean 15:18, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
 Saturday July 12
Saturday's point falls on private property in Woodbridge, VA. I figure we can probably show up & ask for permission to get to the hash, and at least get a photo. There's a park only several blocks away, so we can retire there for 1000 Blank White Cards, or, if the weather's poor, to Potomac Mills. -- Ciel 12 July 2008.
Ah good, someone else. I'm in then. EpeeGnome 12 July 2008
Dan: bring your Go board too, in case to0 few people show for BWC's. Well, I'm headed out. See y'all there. EpeeGnome 12 July 2008
 Saturday June 28
- Main article: 2008-06-28 38, -77
Until the above is discussed, I'll start the talk about June 28 here. East DC is out of the question unless someone has a boat, so it looks like [West DC] for a lot of people. It's quite a drive for me, but I'll go if I think at least a few other people are going. Perhaps we could meet at the business parking lot W-NW of the point, and hike the 600 feet to the spot after we've got a few people together. It would save us trampling on lawns, and provide plenty of parking. If the business seems unfriendly, we could congregate at the fast food restaurant just across the street from there instead. EpeeGnome 27 June 2008
The cul-de-sac SE of the spot is closer, but I guess the parking lot provides better access without going thru private lawns. - Kassad
The way I see it, if we're going to hit the real spot anyway, then it doesn't really matter how close the meetup point is, only how convenient. EpeeGnome 28 June 2008
I say we meet up in the parking lot at 3:30-4:00 PM (bring a radio so we can double check there's no one already trying the point). At 4:00ish we'll walk east to the point. There's more parking here and no real chance we'll walk on private property (well, we won't be noticed at least). Jmacdonagh 15:52, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Alright, I have to leave before 2pm to get there on time, so I'm headed out. I'm bringing a radio, tuned to channel 6, and the game One Thousand Blank White Cards. People better show with that long of a drive. -EpeeGnome 28 June 2008
 Saturday June 21
Saturday's location in the Eastern DC graticule looks to be about 200m N of MD-50/MD-301, near Parole, MD. Parking on 50 and hiking up might not be a great idea, but about 350m NW of the spot there's a cul-de-sac at the end of Lavall Dr that would probably work. Google page for directions purposes here. --Katie
 Saturday June 14
If I'm not mistaken, Saturday's location is in Founder's Park in Old Town Alexandria. This is a great location for a meetup! I'll do the best I can to be there, and I'll bring my bag of card games too. Anybody up for Fluxx, Give Me the Brain, or Guillotine? - Cerulean
- The hash is a very nice location, Founder's Park in Alexandria. I'm probably going to ride the metro in and try to be there around 4 pm. Anyone else planning on showing up? - (unsigned comment by ActionJackson)
- Meetup main page: 2008-06-14 38, -77.
- I'm definitely going to be there! This is a fantastic meetup spot. I can provide rides for folks who live in the Sterling/Reston area (must have valid certification of Not Being a Serial Killer). Looking forward to some games! -- Ciel 18:05 UTC, June 13, 2008.
 Saturday June 7
DC West is fairly near me. Anyone else planning to go? Looks like private land, near a house, so I doubt we'll be able to hit the spot exactly. It is in the woods a bit, so I think it's worth a try. --EpeeGnome
- I'll be there! I'm in the Sterling area of Virginia - if anyone near Sterling or Reston needs a ride, drop me a line on my talk page. I've got a USB GPS module for my computer, so we should be able to get pretty close. -- Dan 6:18 AM UTC, June 7, 2008.
 Saturday May 31
Best location for DC is in DC East, just east of Brandywine, MD. If nothing else, meet at intersection of Tower Road and Old Indian Head Road.
- For those of us West of DC who can't feasibly make the DC East hashpoint, Saturday's point in the Frederick graticule is very convenient - near the Potomac in the Sterling/Reston area. I'm planning on being there. -- Dan 22:58 UTC, May 30, 2008.
Alternatively, Sunday's meetup is south of Dulles Airport, near Centreville and Chantilly. Anyone interested?
- Um, actually, it's way out in Virginia. Perhaps you used the reference implementation's earlier, incorrect hash? -- Dan 23:02 UTC, May 30, 2008.
 Combination of both graticules
I was going to wait for discussion about combining the two graticules, but I got impatient. Sorry if I offended anyone by my actions, it just seemed like the best course of action. --Pnutbutr 17:21, 23 May 2008 (UTC)User:Phydeaux page to account for all four local grats. Afterall, Rockville/Gaithersburg and Silver Spring/Columbia are just as much "DC" as Reston and Woodbridge, and certainly moreso than Waldorf or Easton/Cambridge. --Phydeaux 18:18, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
I actually liked it better as separate pages, like London. - Cerulean
I think it's better to have the DC/Baltimore area page consolidated. Since people will probably be meeting up in whichever graticule's hashpoint is most convenient that day, it's good to have a single page for coordination. The lat/long demarcations are artificial anyways - it makes more sense to focus on cities. --ciel 19:38, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- I was thinking of combining DC with Baltimore this morning, but decided to hold off on it. While I agree that people will most likely visit which ever hashpoint is closest during that day, I feel like some separation needs to be in place. Washington DC is actually divided by a meridian line, so there is a logical reason to join the two graticules. Baltimore is simply another city that shares many suburbs. The system doesn't really play nice with urban sprawl, but that is the system we have. --Pnutbutr 00:06, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- May as well leave it as it is; we can always include links when the arises. Fiyarburst 18:46, 1 November 2008 (UTC)
 Individual Meetup Discussions
I think it would be best if we could come to some sort of consensus on where to discuss individual meetups. While I like the idea of discussing each on their individual pages, this can lead to extra pages that no one visited. Perhaps we could start discussion on the graticule page in an "Upcoming Meetups" section, and move it to it's own page when it seems to have caught on, or after it happens, and dispose of it if nothing comes of it. Any thoughts on this? --EpeeGnome 27 June 2008
I'm going to go ahead and do this since there has been no discussion on this for almost 2 weeks. I'll put it back if someone complains. EpeeGnome 10 July 2008
I know I'm just talking to myself here, but I put it back the way it was, and divided locations which are notable from those which where visited. I see that we like to discuss upcoming meetups on the talk page, which makes sense in retrospect. EpeeGnome 12 July 2008
 Recent Locations
Anyone mind deletion of the "large house" comment about 2008-05-22? From looking at the satellite photo, and from what I know from having driven past that stretch of road more times than I can remember, I'm fairly certain it's a building attached to the private school there. The disturbing possibility of someone showing up at a private, all-girls boarding school explaining how something they read on the internet told them to go there just strikes me has having disaster written all over it. 126.96.36.199 08:09, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
While we're on the topic does anyone mind the deletion of places no-one went to? EpeeGnome 27 June 2008
I'm just going to go ahead and delete those 2 locations no-one visited. EpeeGnome 10 July 2008
 June 28, 2009
The DC west geohash is near Vienna VA, about 10mi from where I'm staying, and I'd love to get a meetup while I'm in the area. If anyone else can make it, please leave a message on my talk page. -- Jevanyn 02:48, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Geohash for west DC tomorrow is inside city limits! On 16th st NW, easily accessible by car, bus, or foot transportation. Should be a good turnout. -Tom
 May 28-31, 2010
I'll be in the DC area, potentially with half-a-dozen fellow geeks from New Jersey. Meetup on Saturday the 29th or Monday the 31st? -- Jevanyn 01:48, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
