Backup not Needed

Shall we say this year that if the hashpoint falls in the sea or MOD land or whatever, we just attempt to reach the nearest accessible point to the actual geohash? This seemed like a popular option in the vote last time.

Getting closer

This isn't far off now. I'm not sure what the other Tongs are doing, but I've kept the day free and I'll attempt to get to the point if it can be reached completely by public transport and walking within 2-3 hours each way and at least one other person will be making an attempt to get there (including any of the Tongs). Should be fun. --ChromeCrusaders (talk) 21:52, 6 May 2017 (UTC)
Sourcerer has fouled up and double booked events on this day. I'm likely to be an hour or two late for a 16:00 meetup depending on how far west the hashpoint is. If we meet in a pub, perhaps I'll go to the hashpoint, if reachable, after the pub. That way we ought to meet. --Sourcerer (talk) 19:38, 7 May 2017 (UTC)
Sounds good! I think we need to be flexible given how spread out we are anyway. I saw Tongs/M today. She said she's interested in coming, but we want to make our decision on Friday. It's likely the point will be difficult to reach by public transport and we're not sure if we have access to a car. As usual, we'll do our best. Tongs (talk) 22:13, 14 May 2017 (UTC)

Will the Tongs go?

We're not sure yet. I've written to M to see what she thinks.

Possible plans:

  • A 1h15 drive via Thetford Forest Park, with a picnic lunch.
  • A weekend in Cromer, and visiting the hashpoint on the way back.
  • A trip to Wymondham in time for lunch (train from Cambridge takes an hour, departs every hour), and going to Yaxham on the heritage railway.

It is a really long way, so we'll see. I'll report back here as soon as I know.

[Later]

I’m sorry but it looks like I’m not going to be able to make it. M can’t come, so my only option is to go via national rail and heritage railway. Though the Mid-Norfolk Railway sounds lovely, that would mean a journey of about 3½ hours there and 3¼ hours back. Furthermore, it would only be possible for me to be at the hashpoint between 12:05 and 15:25 (since taking the 14:30 train would be cutting it very fine) and would therefore be far too early for Sourcerer.

Mouseover Day

I'm slightly confused here. If Geohashing Day falls on a Sunday, does that mean Mouse Over day (2017-05-27) should instead be celebrated? Benefits of doing it on the Sunday include: More time to plan, won't interfere with the long bank holiday weekend, I might not be around for the weekend after (it's near to my birthday). We could have a vote maybe. Tongs (talk) 20:59, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

Sourcerer will certainly attempt to reach the 05-21 point. If there's another plan for 05-27, I'm up for another adventure. --Sourcerer (talk) 14:28, 23 May 2016 (UTC)

Hope you made it home Sourcerer ! --ChromeCrusaders (talk) 20:36, 21 May 2017 (UTC)

Yes - all good - After my 10.6 mile walk I fell asleep for a while though! --Sourcerer (talk) 23:05, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
