From Geohashing

I just happened upon this report again, while checking to see if any newer expeditions had set lower temperatures, and decided to look into the questionability of this claim. To give further doubt to the temperatures cited in this report, here is the temperature data for an airport closer to the geohash coordinates than the airport the author cited. This airport showed only -5.8 F (-21 C), which is warmer than the standing record of -22.9 C. This serves both to show that non-qualifying temperatures were observed closer to the hash point than qualifying temperatures were observed, as well as that temperatures can vary greatly over short distances making a reading from more than twenty miles away be insufficient for record setting. http://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KORC/2010/1/5/DailyHistory.html - Mark 2012-08-20
