The hashpoint will be on land in western Nigadoo, just east of the highway. The area has road access 250 feet away, which suggests a backyard. However, it turned out to be wooded.
Well, with this geohash falling a few kilometers away from my parent's home on a Sunday, I supposed it was time to get involved, head out to my first hash, and devirginize the Bathurst, New Brunswick graticule.
My parents were going to town, and while I had intended to bike, it turned into a drive. A few minutes and we were in Nigadoo, at the corner of Sources and Frenette, the closest map point. I encouraged a turn up into a single lane drive onto gravel to get directly north of the point. My parents, confused at my strange event of the day, let me out of the car as I got to the side of the road with my camera. At that point, another car came up behind, forcing them to drive off, leaving me kind of stranded. What are the odds?
Shrugging, I slipped into the woods, forcing my way through the first section of trees; fortunately it thinned out a little past the edge. I hiked in to a bit of a clearing sixty feet in or so, decided it was close enough (TM), and snapped some pictures. However, since I had forgot to switch the camera of macro mode, they came out looking like something from the Blair Witch Project.
(I was the one that said "keep going south." I was the one who said that we were not lost. It was my fault, because it was my project. I am so scared! I know there are raptors out there. We are going to die out here! I am so scared!)
Since they were waiting for me, I slipped out without marking the site or, I'm afraid, taking an arm's length picture of me at the site. Still, I think the street sign and last night time stamp on my map should be proof enough!
