From Geohashing

Welcome to Seattle

... one of the more active graticules on our planet. It rains a lot here, but that doesn't often deter our intrepid geohashers. Current expedition discussions at the top of the this page. Archived discussions on the past page.

We used to use this for expedition planning. Anyhow, decent hashpoint for Saturday the 10th - come join us at 4pm! --Thomcat (talk) 18:38, 10 February 2024 (UTC)

April 26, 2020

Saturday is in Puget Sound, but Sunday is at least on dry land. Looks to be inaccessible, down an alley, but I will walk it and hope. Maybe the house will be for sale? --Thomcat (talk) 14:45, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Did you manage to grab this one?? -- OtherJack (talk) 04:53, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
Never made the trip - got busy on Sunday :) No back alley skulking for this cat. --Thomcat (talk) 14:06, 28 April 2020 (UTC)

July 7

At the junction of the Burke-Gilman Trail and Sammamish River Trail in Bothell. I've passed through there before (so I guess I could claim a tracklog Déjà vu) but I wasn't planning on that long of a bike ride today. Coyotebush (talk) 15:28, 7 July 2019 (UTC)

We found it! Our first geohash : ) Am I supposed to like post a selfie taken at the site or something? This is SubRosa - my name didn’t show up blue? I may not be doing this right.

Nice. Welcome to geohashing! You can find some tips for writing up expeditions in A beginner's guide and Expedition. I got you started by creating 2019-07-07 47 -122 and linking to it from Seattle, Washington. To sign posts on talk pages (or anywhere else), type four tildes ~~~~ which when saved will expand into your username and the date. Coyotebush (talk) 21:41, 7 July 2019 (UTC)
Thank you! This is super complicated and I’m doing it on my phone so I appreciate the help : ) --SubRosa (talk) 21:48, 7 July 2019 (UTC)SubRosa
Hi SubRosa! Next step is to click on that link and "edit" the page. You will see prompts, but the key section is "Expedition". Let us know how it went! --Thomcat (talk) 20:30, 12 July 2019 (UTC)

Visited the location as a retro-expedition on the way home from work. Completely achievable. Would be nice to have a photo, but not necessary to call this expedition a success. Looking forward to meeting you on a future expedition! --Thomcat (talk) 05:03, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

June 22, 2019

In a parking lot a few blocks from the Bellevue Transit Center. I'll aim to hop on a bus to be there around the appropriate time. Coyotebush (talk) 18:13, 22 June 2019 (UTC)

June 21

A front yard in Madrona. May visit after work. Coyotebush (talk) 15:08, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

May 27

Possibly within the Parkwood Ridge Open Space on Mercer Island. Coyotebush (talk) 00:14, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

May 2018

Happy 10th anniversary of Geohashing! Today's spot is in the water of Puget Sound. I hope to be visiting a geohash somewhere in the graticule on May 23rd, my 10th Hashiversary. Of course then Friday is Towel day and then Saturday is Mouse over day, so there will be more geohashing this week. Excited? Post here! --Thomcat (talk) 21:16, 21 May 2018 (UTC)

February 21

Just south of the Trestle Bridge, admission required, only accessible 10am to 4pm. I can't today, but this is a future retrohash if nobody else accepts the challenge. --Thomcat (talk) 14:55, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

February 10, 2018

An expedition to the banks of a lost river! Pith helmets optional... --Thomcat (talk) 21:58, 9 February 2018 (UTC)

December 11

In the Google street view, someone is totally checking out the geohash! They were gone by the time Bing came along. --Thomcat (talk) 14:38, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

December 9

Along Lake Washington Blvd in the Mt Baker neighborhood. Coyotebush (talk) 02:26, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

I plan to make a visit - once I get back on the right continent. My flight arrives at 4:25, then there's customs. Probably around 5:30. --Thomcat (talk) 04:44, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

November 28

Seriously cool expedition today, at the bottom of the bluffside trail on Maury Island - if it's above water. Low tide was a few hours ago, and again at 7:20 tonight, when it will be quite dark. I plan to hit this as a retrohash someday, probably in the summertime. --Thomcat (talk) 15:22, 28 November 2017 (UTC)

November 27

In the middle of Genesee Park and Playfield in South Seattle. --Thomcat (talk) 15:02, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

November 8

Looks to be in the backyard of 18715 Ballinger Way NE in Lake Forest Park. --Thomcat (talk) 14:41, 8 November 2017 (UTC)

October 30

Holy hash! In the middle of the First Pentecostal Church near Lake Tapps. --Thomcat (talk) 14:46, 30 October 2017 (UTC)

October 10

On the roadside near the Red Dog Saloon on the Renton-Maple Valley Highway. --Thomcat (talk) 14:53, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

August 5

Lakeridge Elementary on Mercer Island. Planning wrinkle is that the I-90 bridge is closed 12:45-14:45 for the Blue Angels' show. Coyotebush (talk) 03:04, 5 August 2017 (UTC)

July 29

Another Bremerton location. Farther from the ferry (hmm, might be a good chance to try out the new fast ferry), but closer to the road. Reachable by public transit or bicycle. Coyotebush (talk)

  • Bike looks hard, bus looks great. I'm going for it. Coyotebush (talk) 20:35, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

May 13

Within a mile of the Bremerton ferry terminal. Which makes it technically within bicycle range for me. Weather is iffy though, and the front yard the point lies in looks a bit overgrown. Coyotebush (talk) 01:49, 13 May 2017 (UTC)

March 26

In a Salmon Bay marina. A quick water geohash if someone has a boat; paddling across from the 14th Ave NW ramp would do the trick. --Coyotebush (talk) 03:48, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

Nov 26

Auburn and Vashon are in the woods, but Saturday is a geohash inside the Dog & Pony Alehouse in Renton. I'll be there at 4:00 for a good 'ol Saturday meetup. You can earn an achievement. --Thomcat (talk) 14:41, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Nov 5/6

Two elementary schools - Saturday in Edgewood (east of Tacoma) and Sunday in Rose Hill (east of Kirkland). I'll be at one or two for sure - see you there? --Thomcat (talk) 13:45, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

May 1

You have your choice of a parking lot in Woodinville or joining a carpool to a globalhash in Astoria. While not locked in yet, I definitely favor the latter. I *suppose* you could also do both. --Thomcat (talk) 18:36, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Apr 9

Bellevue Golf Course - anyone up for a round? --Thomcat (talk) 13:54, 8 April 2016 (UTC)

Jan 23/24

Saturday in the Snoqualmie graticule looks to be quite near the Preston Snoqualmie trail, which apparently has a view of the falls near the Snoqualmie end. Sunday here is in Everett, near Silver Lake, with a 7-11 just across the freeway. Hopefully I can make the latter, weather and plans preclude the former for me. --Thomcat (talk) 09:55, 22 January 2016 (EST)

I did make the latter, and was perhaps the only expedition that day. --Thomcat (talk) 09:52, 25 January 2016 (EST)

Sept 22

On the grounds of Tacoma Community College, near the Japanese Friendship Garden. Anyone want to give it a visit? --Thomcat (talk) 09:43, 22 September 2015 (EDT)

Sept 18-20

Friday September 18 is a decent spot, between Murphy's corner and Archbishop Murphy High School. I'll bet those two are related... --Thomcat (talk) 11:14, 18 September 2015 (EDT)

June 8

Interesting point on Tacoma's waterfront; I encourage someone to go see it. http://geohashing.info/20150608/c22zrkt9/17/c22uvnr3 --Thomcat (talk) 09:42, 8 June 2015 (EDT)

May 29-31

Today's Logan Park looks decent; tomorrow it's probably ambassador near Juanita Woodlands park. Sunday is deep woods on the peninsula; will look elsewhere. --Thomcat (talk) 09:40, 29 May 2015 (EDT)

April 24-26

Three decent points this weekend, two at opposite corners of the graticule. Friday has us in Olympia, Saturday near Snoqualmie (in a farmer's field), and Sunday right downtown. Definitely going to the last one, but ping here if you are interested in the other two. --Thomcat (talk) 09:41, 24 April 2015 (EDT)

April 11

April 10th and 12th have that edge-of-the graticule minesweeper appeal, but are otherwise unattractive. April 11th is on Seattle Hill Road in Mill Creek - definitely worth an afternoon visit. Say, 4pm? --Thomcat (talk) 11:00, 10 April 2015 (EDT)

Christmas Eve & Christmas, 2014

Center graticule means splash for us, so unless you are a fish, I wish you all a Merry Christmas! --Thomcat (talk) 09:38, 24 December 2014 (EST)

Goodbye peoples!!

I am moving away from this graticule on Monday the 1st... and none of the points through then look convenient to me, so I probably won't see any of you in person. It's been a great couple of years though! -- OtherJack (talk) 14:06, 29 August 2014 (EDT)

May you either find better geohashing... or take your curse with you! :) --Thomcat (talk) 21:51, 29 August 2014 (EDT)
It will be the former! -- OtherJack (talk) 22:07, 29 August 2014 (EDT)
Farewell, Jack! I'm glad I was able to meet you--and hit the July 10 globalhash! Truly an epic adventure, as hashing goes. :) -- Rex Wolf (talk) 00:34, 30 August 2014 (EDT)
I know, and it was great to meet you too! Keep hashing in Vancouver (and try to bring the others there out of hibernation...) -- OtherJack (talk) 23:02, 2 September 2014 (EDT)
