[edit] Maximum mute/devoice time
Assume the first ban occurs 1ms after 00:00 (12am)
| Ban time | Total time | Next ban time |
|---|---|---|
| 00:00:04 | 00:00:04 | 00:00:16 |
| 00:00:16 | 00:00:20 | 00:01:04 |
| 00:01:04 | 00:01:24 | 00:04:16 |
| 00:04:16 | 00:05:40 | 00:17:04 |
| 00:17:04 | 00:22:44 | 01:08:16 |
| 01:08:16 | 01:31:00 | 04:33:04 |
| 04:33:04 | 06:04:04 | 09:06:08 (2*ban_time, as we've passed 6 hrs) |
| 09:06:08 | 15:10:12 | 18:12:16 (2*ban_time, as we've passed 12 hrs) |
| 18:12:16 | 33:22:28 | 09:06:08 (0.5 for 18 hrs, 0.5 for 24 hrs, 0.5 for 30 hrs = 0.5*ban_time) |
| 09:06:08 | 42:28:36 | 09:06:08 (0.5 for 36 hrs, 0.5 for 42 hrs = 1*ban_time) |
| 09:06:08 | 51:36:44 | 18:12:16 (0.5 for 48 hrs, = 2*ban_time) |
So theoretical max is 18:12:16, not "just over 9 hours" as written on the wiki?
- Another timing alternative: An 18:12:16 theoretical mute means you can cross either 3 (shown above) OR 4 grace thresholds. If you cross 4, then next mute time is 4.5 hours - which is within the window, so the next mute along is 4*4.5 again (I'm rounding heavily here), returning you to 18 hours mute. --Nemo
Also, how is it possible to get to mute time being anywhere near a year, under this system?
- Manually muted by a human op or moderator/r9k lagging. --NoOneButMe and the rest of the signing code that should follow but i cant remember fully.
NoOneButMe assures me that I've made a mistake somewhere, because maximum time should be 9 hours, but I can't see it. If anyone can point it out to me I'd be very grateful. --Joanna
- Huh! I think you're right. It's possible I got the "9 hours" number from working off 2x bans instead of 4x (which is what it was originally), but maybe I just messed up! Good call. --Xkcd admin 15:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
