Previewing
The preview button is your friend.
Or at least the friend of Anyone who is looking at "recent changes".
If you hit this instead of "save" when you are editing a page, it will let you see what it looks out, but not save the edit. Thus, you can check it and modify it, and not fill up the "Recent changes" log with a lot of tiny edits to the same page. Jiml 01:48, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Other expedition plans additions
There is always a link to the day page (just below the map on the right) from each of the expedition pages. The list of the day's expeditions and plans can always be accessed from there. The main reason to refrain from transcluding this list on all of the expedition pages is that each of those pages needs to be updated (by the wiki server itself) any time the bot comes around and changes the list (which can be quite often, especially on weekends). If you wish to include it on your own expedition page, that is fine, but please let other people add it to their own expeditions if they want it. I strongly urge you to create a discussion page to talk about making the list a part of the expedition template, because it looks like it may be helpful for navigating through expeditions on a given day, and might be well received. However, I think it might be best to avoid adding it to other people's expeditions until it has been discussed by the community. --aperfectring 00:52, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Neil. As you've spotted, Sunday's hash is very reachable and is not far from Cambridge, where I live. So I'll probably head down there at some point during the day, and it may as well be 8am as not. How precise is that ETA, and how feasible might it be to meet up there (albeit briefly, of course)? I don't mind arriving early and hanging around if you might need a bit of lee-way in your arrival time. — Benjw {talk} 16:55, 18 February 2011 (EST)
- 8am is my best estimate. I'm setting out from east Suffolk at about 6:30. It's far enough for there to be some uncertainty but there shouldn't be heavy traffic at that time of day. I'd be happy to pause long enough to exchange manic grin photos and say hello. I wonder if Magician is around. He seems to be hibernating. I'm going to France for a week and if the local WiFi works, I'll keep an eye on Nîmes and Marseille (both virgin). This trip is part of my walk from Portugal to Turkey. If all goes well I'll reach the 3000 km mark later this year. I like to be out and about!
- Splendid -- thanks! I'll aim to be there a bit earlier than that and will bring a book! It looks a quiet, straight road with a verge so look out for a blueish Micra parked right next to the hashpoint -- but I don't want to make you late for your plane so if by any chance I'm not there when you arrive, don't worry about waiting for me. Sounds like an amazing hike you're doing, and a really nice idea for a series of holidays; much more fun than sitting on a beach! Good luck with the French hashes, too. See you tomorrow, I hope. Darn it, I was considering visiting this one myself. Only really bowed out because of being currently a No Batteries-only guy, at the moment, and after a while doing basic angle-finding with an compass gets a bit passée.
Anyway, nice to see your contribution to the Sheffield region. I've been meaning to pile up a few hashes over a weekend, myself, perhaps even go for an endurance expedition, but putting it off until I have something more accurate than an OS map and Google printouts.
Maybe we'll coincide co-ordinates in the future, if you're ranging in this direction and I get around to ranging in to the SE a bit. Although we may not be there at the same time. :)

(PS. for the record, the A57 becomes the Snake Pass, a few miles to the west, but at that point I'd be more likely to call it "top end of the Rivelin Valley" or "just to the Sheffield side of Ladybower reservoir", depending on who I'm talking to. But I bet the actual locals call it Hollow Meadows and don't care that this doesn't mean much even to the average Sheffielder, just a few miles down off the moors. :) )

FYI, something that might happen.
Hi. On Wednesday, it's my birthday. No, I'm not one for parties, so this isn't that kind of invitation, but if I can take a day (or part of it) off work, and bearing in mind that I'm expected around at my parents' at tea-time, I was considering one of a couple of different multi-graticule expeditions, the final choice perhaps coming down to what gives the best chance of getting close (not necessarily guaranteed success, but access close enough (or in an interesting-enough area) to be generally worth the effort to not get there).
One of these is the old "nine zones centred on home". i.e. (52/53/54, -2/-1/-0). Or maybe down to at least four of them, given the sheer mileage needed to get across and around the Pennines in pursuing most of the relevant areas, and of course the danger of it falling inaccessibly in the sea for some parts of the grid, especially in 54,-0!
The other is to visit as many of the (53, X) graticules where the hashpoint lies on mainland Britain (including North Wales, which I was nearly in this weekend, but unfortunately without enough time to even consider bagging the hashes in the 52/53, -2 zone border that I was in the vicinity of). Again, this would vary according to where everything is supposed to happen on that day, and the sea could swallow up some of the prospective hashpoints forcing me to discount them entirely. The terrain could also be awkward, but I'd still consider probable (or even near-certain) failures within most of the grid-squares if it was entertaining and otherwise rewarding enough.
(The third possibility is that this thing utterly fails to get off the ground due to other commitments and either nothing happens, or possibly just boils down to a boringly typical 53,-1 visit because that one just happens to be handy for an early morning or evening visit.)
So, given I don't even know which graticules I'm going to aim for (if any), and this of course related to the fact that I still don't know where within them I'd end be going, I just thought I'd give you a heads-up as really the only person I 'know' who may be in a position to be out and about on that day. Absolutely nothing is guaranteed to be happening, but the general idea is there, and "have car, will travel". On Tuesday afternoon I should be able to work out what I'm doing and set some plans in stone. And I reckon that if I had a chance to actually get to meet someone else this time, it has a good chance to be yourself! :) (I also don't want to drag you a hundred miles from home for nothing, and haven't yet checked the rough weather forecasts for that day, which might influence things.) --Monty 17:31, 24 July 2011 (EDT)
- Nice idea. But your neck of the woods is a hell of a way to travel if the only goal is a hashpoint. Last time I was in the area, I was returning from a weekend with good friends in Staffordshire so the extra mileage was not that great. Even so, I'd like to know what's going on and you never know. After all I did travel to 51,-1 via the M25 just to complete my minesweeper. I've added a watch to User:Monty so if you post there or here, I should see it. - 52 0 looks interesting. It is close to one of my favourite spots on earth (The north Norfolk coast). It's probably a trespass but if the harvest is in, no harm will be done. Sadly I think this means I'll not be heading up north.
- Today's 53 -1 (still to be written up, hopefully in next half hour) was on the edge of a field. The crop (not an expert, but some pea-pod-like stuff hanging off of densely packed and branching plants that were shoulder-height) was still waiting to be harvested. But I could wander through the edge of it and the bordering waist-high weeds without risking the wrath of the farmer. Also looked like someone had been that way before, in parts, and as there were obvious unmarked footpaths already on the edges of several fields (including another edge of this one) it probably wasn't so Trespassy. :)
- Anyway, I'm thinking I'll go for the coast-to-coast variant (another time, I'll try to catch a coast-to-coast that has at least five graticules with land-based hashpoints, which is possible). Wander over to Lancashire for 53 -2, get the 'easy'-looking field-based one (crops permitting) as early in the morning as I can. On the way back to 53 -1 for the moorland one by around dinnertime, find a place to buy the large-scale OS map that covers the Ilkley area (having left it too late today to go shopping) so I have a better idea of the path it appears I'll have to walk on for a couple of kilometers. Then over to 53 -0, hopefully by mid afternoon, to see whether it really is in a churchyard or, whether I'll have to consider bothering the Rocking Horse Company people who work next door. Then back home for something I can't be late for, and which is part of the reason (plus the awkward route needed) why I'm veering away from the four-fold visit which would have come closest to you (at 52 -0, in an area I know pretty well). If you're also thinking of being elsewhere, it clears my conscience a tad.
- I use OS Maps on-line quite a lot. If you do a five graticule coast-to-coast there ought to be an award. Perhaps the Canute Bingo.

GPS Walkabout
That might explain the wandering GPS point effect. I didn't feel any wind at the geohash; the site was in a wooded area, stopping most of the wind. The weather was breezy and overcast. I'll have to pay attention to those conditions, and see if I see the same effect again. -- Jevanyn 13:26, 23 January 2012 (EST)

Interactive Map
Most people list their Geohashes that they have accomplished or not accomplished on their user page. You have 2 geohashes listed on your user page so your interactive map has 2 geohashes on it.
There really isn't a good way to determine who went on what geohash unless they are listed on user pages. If you would like to have a functional interactive map, then you need to list your own geohashes. --NWoodruff (talk) 01:27, 9 August 2014 (EDT)

- I've updated the program and it will run sometime this morning. So sometime early afternoon your time your map should be complete.
