From Geohashing

2013-12-21 39 -77

Hey, did you ever go out to this geohash? I moved the page into "expedition planning", I was curious if you went out or not -- Jevanyn (talk) 09:55, 6 March 2015 (EST)

No, I did not go. Thanks for moving it. OfficeLinebacker (talk) 10:10, 6 March 2015 (EST)

You're on Fire!

It's great to see you so active lately; you're giving us a lot of adventures to read. I'll have to visit your area if we ever get out of sudo-quarantine when I'm traveling to see my brother in NC. I've got a friend in Southern MD as well. Pedalpusher (talk) 02:10, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, man! Pedalpusher Yeah it's been fun now that there's no traffic and work has cut my hours. I also bought a new sportscar last year and bought some hiking boots. Unfortunately sometimes I can't do the really epic ones (the ones that require 1.5-2h of driving AND a good 1-2 hours outside the car hiking in the forest) on weekdays, but I think if I could do every geohash I'm interested in I would get bored of it.

If I'm honest I don't think I'll keep doing it when things go back to normal. I will look back on this time as some of the best times of my life, exploring the splendid outdoors and making a silver lining of this quarantine stuff. Once traffic is back, I'll be spending more time in the gym rather than geohashing (the gym does have an outdoor deck so I will still get some fresh air).

Having said all that, if you want to hook up on one of your NC travels, LMK, when other people are involved it's always a lot more interesting. --OfficeLinebacker (talk)

I don't know if 'bored' is the right word, but I know what you mean. And it's definitely easier motivation when you are home more often. I was working from home full time when I first started playing. After changing jobs and having to go into the office, my willingness to drive very far dropped off significantly. Enjoy the adventures while they last, and I'll definitely reach out next time I'm down that way! Pedalpusher (talk) 13:16, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Sunday and Monday

Last Sunday, 2020-04-19, you created two pages. You clearly reached 2020-04-19 40 -77, but before that, you said you were going to attempt 2020-04-19 39 -78. Is it possible that you intended to post that info to 2020-04-19 40 -77, or did you really attempt two Geohashes on Sunday? --Fippe (talk) 16:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi there! I did indeed want to go to 2020-04-19 39 -78 but the first one slaked my thirst and I abandoned plans for the second one. I think there was some debate in my head as far as the sequence, and I ended up going on the opposite order then giving up before going to the next one. --OfficeLinebacker (talk)

On the next day, after reaching 2020-04-20 38 -78, you said you were going to attempt 2020-04-20 38 -78 or "at least explore the area" since it was getting dark. Did your plans work out? --Fippe (talk) 16:42, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

On the second one, I did indeed go to the area, but the area had zero cell phone reception. I tried two roads but each one only got me within a couple of miles, and as you can see, the area is densely forested. With no cell phone reception, fading light, no obvious non-trepassing paths, and being in an area with plenty of guns, I figured the prudent course of action was to demur. I usually upload photos from the Geohash droid app as I go, and I simply forgot. Also my app is now crashing a lot so I can't update the wiki any more. Thanks for looking out Fippe --OfficeLinebacker (talk)

Thank you for the information! --Fippe (talk) 13:12, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

2020-05-03

At 2020-05-03 39 -76, you left a message that looks like it belongs to 2020-05-03 39 -77. Was it there by mistake or did you actually attempt both geohashes? --Fippe (talk) 22:27, 3 May 2020 (UTC)

Indeed it was a misclick in the Geohash Droid app. BTW do you know how to get in touch with the developer?

Thanks. The developer has some email addresses linked to his PGP key. The PGP key is the one I found on his website. --Fippe (talk) 06:29, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

2020-05-05

Did you reach the coordinates at 2020-05-05 39 -78? --Fippe (talk) 20:48, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

Yes, I did. I got so frustrated with the Geohash droid app that I didn't finish updating it. But yes and it was very nice, aside from the technological snafus.

2020-05-31 and 2020-06-02

Hi! I have two questions. You created the page 2020-05-31 40 -78, but did not add any details. Did you attempt going to this geohash, and if you did, did you reach it?

You also posted some pictures of animals to 2020-06-02 38 -77, but did not indicate whether you reached the coordinates. Did you reach them? --Fippe (talk) 11:44, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for reaching out. First one must be a bug with the geohash for droid app; it requires at least a message to be submitted, but this got created empty. I suspect I checked it out in the app but never intended to go for it, much less create a page.

The second one I did indeed make it to, but the app must have lost some of the posts. I added one picture and some description.

Thanks again! --OfficeLinebacker

Thank you too! --Fippe (talk) 17:17, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

In your report at 2022-10-11 40 -77, you were unsure if you were logged in and if we could see your posts. I wanted to let you know that you were logged in and I can see them. Did you reach the coordinates though? The last photo shows you in the right forest, but 730 feet away from the spot. --Fippe (talk) 15:02, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
