Original proposal

So, the other day I had an idea for this wiki.

As the Wikipedians among you may know, it is rather common for Wikipedians to put Userboxes on their userpages, often there's a small list of them on the right. As the examples behind that link show, a lot of them are serious, others are there for fun.

Now, because over here at the Geohashing wiki we aren't trying to document what happened to long-dead kings, but document our own expeditions, users are much more important. This is easy to see, as userpages are already more important than at Wikipedia. For instance, people use them to keep lists of their achievements and expeditions.

There's the simple ASG box already, but I believe we could borrow some ideas from Wikipedia to make this more interesting.

For instance userboxes...

• which show when you started Geohashing.
• which show your reasons for Geohashing.
• which show favorite modes of transport during expeditions.
• which show other, related hobbies, like "This user is also looking for Geocaches", or in my own case I would like something like "This user believes Geocaching is just a silly way to relive pre-geohashing times" Please don't discuss my views on geocaching here. :).
• which show language knowledge, Wikipedia uses these a lot.
• which show whatever you want.

Discussion points

So, what I would like to hear from you:

• Do you support this proposal or not (and why)?
• Are any changes needed before this can be implemented?
• Do you have any ideas to improve it?
• Do you have any ideas for other relevant types of userboxes?

Implementation

Hijackal has gone and copied Template:Userbox from Wikipedia, see there for documentation on making userboxes. It's really easy, as you can see by looking at the source of Hijackals first one: Template:User_Juggler. The ASG box is only so intimidating because it actually calculates things. --Hijackal 16:58, 12 April 2012 (EDT)

As on Wikipedia, I suggest all future boxes should be named "Template:User_<something>" and added to Category:Userboxes --Hijackal 16:58, 12 April 2012 (EDT)

Also copying wikipedia, userboxes do not align themselves - anyone can put them where the like. The most common behavior (float at top right) can be achieved using templates:
