[edit] Oh! Different is nice!

Hey, looks as if i'm the first to comment on this new format. I like it! It looks very attractive. I do however have two comments. 1. I would like to see the day of week somewhere. Even if it's just 'Mon' like that. 2. The '++' and 'how?' seem not very obvious on what people are expected to do. Perhaps a bit of explanatory text above that links to the How page, and then an 'add yours' link instead of the '++'. -- sermoa 22:07, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Yay! comments! I actually tried to incite a discussion here but things went unnoticed, and so I thought I could just go for the offensive change instead. :D
Hurrah! Good choice! -- sermoa 22:29, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Re 1) Days of week are important for geohashing, I'll see that I find one somewhere. 2) Yes, I was trying to find something short (not wider than the year) that still makes you want to click. The ++ was just an in-joke, because "add" with the URL-symbol was too wide. I had (+) before, but that's not necessarily better. I could also try to make the "how" more obvious and explain things there maybe. how and to on two lines could work. Suggestions are very welcome here! -- relet 22:25, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I wouldn't mind at all if the date marker column were a bit wider. Can you give it css width to enable room for a full 'add' link? And is there a way of avoiding that misleading "this goes to a different website" arrow? -- sermoa 22:29, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, that's the actual trouble. If you want to link to the &action=edit part of the page, you'll have to use an external link. Otherwise you could just link to the date page, and if it does not exist, it would say "create this page". If it does exist, it would just display something not unlike a gallery for the day though. We could try that maybe. -- relet 22:32, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I think there is a way to hide the linky arrow. Somebody managed to do it for Template:Advert where it goes 'click here' and goes to edit a new comment section on the talk page. I know we had trouble with that arrow but somebody (probably either Davidc or Koepfel) found a way to fix it. -- sermoa 22:39, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
Indeed! Thank you! -- relet 22:44, 6 June 2010 (UTC) It works! -- relet 22:47, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
HURRAH!! glad you were able to find the thing you needed. I couldn't see it myself but now i see how it works :) -- sermoa 22:50, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
I'm still campaigning to get mediawiki markdown + HTML/CSS on the list of esoteric programming languages. But most people would claim it's just a PITA. :P -- relet 22:56, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

I may not have the perfect solution, but I have the problem that I read it as "add how" and not as two separate options, not realizing that it was a separate add link until I read the discussion above. My fix would be to change it to add!. I was going to suggest add. but that looks like an abbreviation. Otherwise I think it looks great, eliminating the gaps when the page gets ahead of the writeups and putting more expedition goodness into the same space without undue clutter. -Robyn 23:14, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

Excellent idea! [x] done! -- relet 23:16, 6 June 2010 (UTC)

I like having more days, and the columns, but I do not like the repetition. Also, I rarely disagree with Robyn, but every time I see an exclamation I mentally feel like I'm supposed to be responding immediately somehow. I think we could safely remove the month and year, and reduce the 14 "how?" links into one. The "add!" could then be left without punctuation. Juventas 07:04, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

I agree. No need for a 'how?' link every day; one descriptive link at the top will suffice. "See how to add your expedition" or something like that. The exclamation mark tells me that it's either something i must do, or something that's exciting or funny. Be gone, exclamation mark! -- sermoa 13:08, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

On the "day summary" pages 2010-06-13 there used to be a link that pointed you to the expedition images page for that day to make it easy to add a photo to the day gallery. Is it possible to get that back? I know I can use the link from the main page, but what happens if I'm adding a picture to an "older" expedition?? Jiml 06:02, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

[x] Done! -- relet 08:53, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
