Talk:Voss, Norway

From Geohashing

Actualy, Vossevangen is the centrum of Voss. 'Vangen' means centre in old norwegian. Please change the name of this page to 'Voss'.

I understand. I did it in keeping with the policy on the Active Graticules page, that says "Region/Graticule pages named "City Name, Country" where "City Name" is the most major (by population) urban center contained within it." I know that "urban" is not actually all that true anywhere in this section, even Vossevangen, but according to SSB [1], this is the closest we get! On the other hand, you're likely to be doing more here than anyone else, so if you feel strongly, you should be able to change it back yourself without too much trouble. You can use the "flytt" or "move" (My browser's in Nynorsk...) tab at the top.AshleyMorton 19:35, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Comparing Vossevangen to Voss is like comparing Manhattan, New York to New York, New York. If SSB had a similar list for USA, they would list Manhattan on that list.
I don't really mind - I'm not going to change it back, but that's not really true. SSB uses built-up ("Urban") areas for those stats. That's why some of them include more than one kommune, and some have many different urban areas within the same kommune. It's like comparing Los Angeles County [2] to the urban area of Los Angeles [3]. It's not meant to be counties, or kommunar, or regions, but rather urban areas. However, it's sort of a stupid rule, and just "Voss" is probably better, here, anyway. AshleyMorton 23:18, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
