Talk:Motorcycle geohash achievement

• As submitter I am of course a supporter of this proposition. Mostly because I use geohashes to "train" for motorcycle license, but also because I feel there's quite a difference between going by car, bicycle or motorcycle. This unsigned contribution was added by DeFre
• I oppose, for the same reason we don't have a car achievement. Devoting your time to going to a random spot is by no means a waste (we've all learned that), but the same cannot be said about fuel. If you like going on expeditions by motorcycle, I don't want to take your fun from you, but we shouldn't encourage other people to do so. --Calamus 05:06, 12 January 2014 (EST)
• I also oppose, for the same reason we don't have a car achievement -- but unlike Calamus, I don't think that reason has anything to do with "wasting fuel", and has more to do with the fact that if you hash by car or motorbike, you just sit and let a machine do the work. If you hash on foot or by pushbike, you are putting in effort to get there, and it is that effort that I think makes the difference as to whether an achievement should be gained or not. — Benjw  _{talk} 06:44, 12 January 2014 (EST)

• I support. Look, I actually really don't like motorbikes. But that's my personal preference, and it's beyond petty for me to inflict that on the rest of the world. Having achievements helps collect data about how people get to their expeditions. And achievements aren't only about "effort" (see the "Easy geohash" and "Couch potato" achievements...). • Oppose partially due to the same reasons as above. As well as these, the achievement is relatively unachievable for many due to a lack of motorcycle ownership. If you reach a geohash via motorcycle, mentioning that in the expedition already feels like recognition enough. Alternatively, if someone who did this wanted a ribbon for it, the gratuitous ribbon is probably a better fit than an entirely new achievement. --KerrMcF (talk) 02:36, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
