Talk:High geohash achievement

From Geohashing

I hate to ask the question, but the way this is worded indicates this is just for the meetup. If the ribbon is instead awarded for the highest geohash point, then the indicated expedition does not qualify. --Thomcat 19:59, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Now I don't understand. I don't think the random number generator should win ribbons for spewing out geohashes in Tibet and Nepal, if that's what you mean. I took this to be an award for the *people* who reach the highest geohash. If I misread the expedition, then correct it. I'm on the road, and don't have opportunity. --Robyn

Correct, the ribbon is for people. *I* think the ribbon should only be given for high altitude at the geohash coordinates, not for high altitude at another meetup location. The listed expedition was Category:Coordinates not reached, and therefore ineligible, IMHO. --Thomcat 20:17, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

My personal definition counts it at success if strangers meet without prearrangement, even if they don't get to the exact point, but I guess that's because I have never met anyone looking for a geohash and there's no way I'm going to count the first time that happens as a failure. I guess it's not a very good definition. How about 2008-05-22_39_-105, then? It's about 5490'. -Robyn 23:00, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Sold! --Thomcat 01:19, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Well, the current record is equal with the highest point in my entire continent...Maybe if I jumped... - UnwiseOwl 02:27, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Sometime the Vancouver Geohashing Fanatics Society is going to get together for an airhash. We might as well go for the altitude record at the same time. Good thing there are no geohashers in Tibet! -Robyn 04:49, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I hadn't considered that airhashes would count, but I suppose that's fair enough... In that case, I need a hash on the Adelaide to Melbourne flight path or something. Or I could just admit that this is one Achievement I will never attain... - UnwiseOwl 04:54, 31 October 2008 (UTC)

So is there anyway to be eligible for this award by ingesting a large number of drugs beforehand?

Mount Everest

Since the theoretical limit of this achievement is obviously the summit of Mount Everest, I was disappointed to see that the 27,86 graticule, in whose northeast corner Everest is located, does not have a page (or even a name) on this wiki. (It is, for example, just west of the Khāndbāri,_Nepal graticule.) I therefore have two suggestions:

  • Creating a name and page for Everest's graticule.
  • Mentioning Everest and its graticule as a relevant note on this achievement page.

Could someone with more knowledge of and/or authority on this wiki lend a hand here? Thanks. Ravi12346 00:36, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
