From Geohashing

Disappointed that daylight-time hijinks didn't work out, but thanks for getting the point! I was in 41,-70 at a conference all weekend, with no convenient hashpoints... -- OtherJack (talk) 13:19, 5 November 2013 (EST)

Original Plans

I will definitely be at the Sunday point, since it's very close to my home. -- AeroIllini (talk) 12:12, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

Crazy idea time - Hang out at the Sunday hash point in 48, -122 until the clock changes backward (Sunday morning at 1:59 am), then drive to the Seattle point to arrive at the same time. Google maps says the trip is 76 miles, but wimps out to 1 hour 26 minutes. The point in 46,-122 is also quite accessible, and... even further in distance. Corvallis OR to Washougal WA is not too shabby either. --Thomcat (talk) 19:00, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
Actually, you could leave the 48,-122 hash point anytime after 1:00 am, as that is the hour that will be repeated. This is sounding like a less-and-less crazy idea... --Thomcat (talk) 19:02, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
Going for a Time-Traveller Geohash award, I see. The time-traveller award has only been given once before for DST shenanigans, in Austria (at the 47N latitude, no less!). This would be a North American first! I'm game if you are. -- AeroIllini (talk) 19:37, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

47,-122

Aero, you definitely need to scout the Sunday 47,-122 location beforehand (today?) to see if it is achievable. If behind a fence or otherwise no-trespass, then further plans are a no-go. --Thomcat (talk) 20:00, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

I will stop by today, although I scouted it in Street View and it seems very achievable. -- AeroIllini (talk) 20:05, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

I have no interest in staying up most of the night, nor zooming around western WA. ;-) However, the 47, -122 hash would be fairly easy for me to make, and a nice first geohash. I'm thinking of going there during the day; if anyone else wants to meet up, say so and we'll try and arrange a time, OK? Basil (talk) 02:16, 2 November 2013 (EDT)

I'd love to meet you, Basil! We haven't discussed daytime specifics yet. My daughter has soccer just northeast of this location (at Judkins Playfield) in the early afternoon, so meeting after that is pretty easy. We haven't heard from other Seattle stalwarts yet either, so they may be in. --Thomcat (talk) 09:45, 2 November 2013 (EDT)
I've confirmed that Sunday's 47, -122 location is achievable, and I'd be happy to meet Basil there! Should we do a standard 4pm meetup tomorrow? -- AeroIllini (talk) 12:21, 2 November 2013 (EDT)
Yay for that! Soccer game is at 1:30 pm, Seahawks Football game starts at 1:00 pm, so I would advise *against* the standard 4:00 pm time - football exit traffic will make things a mess. Shall we shoot for 3:00 pm (Pacific Standard Time) instead? --Thomcat (talk) 12:55, 2 November 2013 (EDT)
3pm works for me. -- AeroIllini (talk) 13:17, 2 November 2013 (EDT)
Well, ******! The electricity is out, here.In fact, it's out across a fairly substantial area. I don't know how long it will be out. If it's still out Sunday AM, I'll have to cancel. This place is not safe to leave alone when the power comes back on---sometimes the power returns in a surge, so it's very, very wise to be at home when it does. I'll keep everyone informed as things progress. I'm crossing my fingers. Basil has his fingers crossed (talk)
Lots of power outages in the area! Suggest you unplug everything, surges rarely cross air gaps :) --Thomcat (talk) 17:15, 2 November 2013 (EDT)

Sorry, but I cannot make it after all. I woke up a couple of hours ago with my asthma at its worst, with the runs, and with a slight fever. Total PITA, but nothing I can do about it, except to crawl back to bed and be sick. Oh well, I'll have to hope for a good location in the near future. Basil (talk) 12:23, 3 November 2013 (EST)

48,-122

The logistics of stomping around in a farmer's field at 1 in the morning could be interesting, though. Maybe some early contact to ask permission? -- AeroIllini (talk) 19:37, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

Looks like the hash point is behind the properties on Dusty Lane. Bonus - a property across the street is for sale - zillow. Close the deal fast and you could have a couch potato :) --Thomcat (talk) 20:00, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
Haha, perhaps. Any thoughts on contacting our friend the farmer at 5205 Dusty Drive in Burlington, WA sometime tomorrow, to prevent incidents involving shotguns at 1 in the morning? Thomcat, are you going to be north at all tomorrow? -- AeroIllini (talk) 20:05, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
Although, looking at the plat lines, the hash may belong to the house across the way, on Parkridge Pl. -- AeroIllini (talk) 20:11, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
That is what I see also; no Zillow link. The eastern half of the property is clearly farm; could be owned by one of the properties nearby. I haven't firmed my Saturday plans yet, but arriving late-afternoon or early-evening looks to be likely. --Thomcat (talk) 20:14, 1 November 2013 (EDT)
Still strongly want to go; exact time not determined, but likely after dinner. Want to arrive before dark (sunset is 5:49pm PDT). I still have a few hours of wishy-washy... --Thomcat (talk) 17:41, 2 November 2013 (EDT)
Still in Seattle, so daylight and ambassador are right out. About 95% certain this will be a non-expedition at this point. --Thomcat (talk) 21:39, 2 November 2013 (EDT)

Errors

BTW, I think you guys are talking about the 48, -122 graticule. Basil (talk) 02:16, 2 November 2013 (EDT)

In the immortal words of Homer, "D'oh!" Heading changed. --Thomcat 09:45, 2 November 2013 (EDT)

Weather

Rain expected at both 1:00 am times, according to hour-by-hour forecast on weather.com --Thomcat (talk) 20:00, 1 November 2013 (EDT)

Now it's rain and severe wind gusts (up to 65 mph on the coast) through 8:00 pm on Saturday. Wheee!
