It looks like a cenotaph -- a memorial to war dead. In Canada we have things that look like that in most towns, with the names of local soldiers carved into all the sides under the names of different wars. The flagpoles seem to back that up, too. Or if the thing is in the former East Germany, perhaps it used to have a bust of Lenin on it or something. -Robyn 22:23, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
