Dude, stuff like that always seems to happen only after inflating a tire. The reasons are obvious, but it still is firetrucking stupid because you think you do something good to your bike and instead it gets almost fubar'ed. The trick also works great if the tire is worn out, can't withstand the pressure in the tube, ruptures and causes the tube to explode.
