Notes regarding pages tagged for deletion

Just for one place to put all these. Please chip in with opinions. I will remove bullet points as they are resolved.

  • All the old expedition pages with various levels of detail. We need to decide which to delete, and which to keep (and remove delete tags from)
IMHO all that is either a) replaced by a correct page or b) expedition planning (unless it is very elaborate and worth reading) -- relet 08:00, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I find the fact that someone once started to plan an expedition in a graticule where I am interesting, if it's the only activity for that graticule. The catalogues of "point was here, no one went" can definitely go. -Robyn 18:38, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Ok, this is what I'm doing for these
    • Anything that has a suggestion that someone went stays.
    • Anything that has some description of the hashpoint gets put on the grat page. Yes, I know this is confusing for grats that are still active. No, I don't care (unless someone has a better solution).
    • Everything else gets deleted.

Comments? --joannac 05:49, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I think that's a good strategy; well done. -- Benjw 08:34, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Oh, btw, it's really time consuming and boring. So no chance of me flooding recent changes again. --joannac 05:57, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
All that you've done already is very much appreciated, so thankyou for that. As for the rest, just do one or two every now and then; they'll get done eventually. -- Benjw 08:34, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
That is appreciated and sensitive to what will eventually be the hallowed early history of our sport. (shovel, shovel) :-) -Robyn 22:54, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Main Page - should be Main page? (yes, i'm just getting really picky now)
Probably. And All Graticules should be All graticules. I just didn't dare to move them, because someone else's code relies on them. -- relet 08:30, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Set up a redirect, at least, if the code can't be changed. -- Benjw 11:34, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
I much prefer it Main Page. Wikipedia, from where we copied our naming conventions uses Main Page, so so can we. I wouldn't object at all to All graticules, if it doesn't bother Zigdon's code. -Robyn 18:38, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
All_Graticules is regularily read by at least three external applications. But as long as there is a redirect, they should get served the correct page through the redirect anyway. And even if that won't work for all of them, it would be work for half a minute each to fix up the applications. --Ekorren 20:19, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I just noticed the icon links to Main Page (capital P). So I don't think we should change it unless we can change that too. --joannac 23:39, 24 May 2009 (UTC)
I don't think you can move Main_Page without changing the code. Example, "/" redirects to "/Main_Page". This one specifically is probably not worth the hassle of changing. --davidc 23:03, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
User:Wnvoss seems to have turned into User:Ssov, and then removed himself from almost every place he was mentioned. Should I finish removing him from the wiki (so it's like he never existed)? --joannac 06:28, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
Would you make me have never existed if I asked? Set a precedent you want to uphold. Are you going to delete pictures he appears in? -Robyn 07:24, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Will add more as I discover them. --joannac 01:48, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Deletion spree January 2012

Update: all done. Leave a note on my talk page if anything/anyone got deleted/banned in error. --joannac 17:55, 7 January 2012 (EST)

Hello all,

On my request, Joannac is gonna delete all old pages and images in this category. We got a week to check if there are no pages which wrongly have the delete tag.

To order this a bit I suggest that anyone checking some pages do so in the order they are in the category (alphabetical) and reports their progress here. I will check some if/when I got time. - CO2 18:44, 30 December 2011 (EST)

--

I am done checking everything:

Categories: DONE.

Pages: DONE.

Media: DONE.

Category:Orphaned_files: DONE.

For the orphaned files, the ones that were actually unused were from 2009 and earlier and I added a delete tag. Some weren't actually orphaned so I removed the orphaned category.

2009-08-12_52_13 This page can go. It's just funny so you may wanna check if before it disappears FOREVAH.

Heh, thank you. In case anyone wonders, that was the test page for when I wrote the wiki features for geohashdroid. -- relet 21:46, 1 January 2012 (EST)

This stuff needs to be double-checked:

Not_reached_-_Did_not_attempt No idea. Check the talk page. It doesn't seem consensus was reached, but it doesn't seem important anymore so probably it can go.

User:Thyker It can probably go but has a bit of a strange history. BTW, what effect does deleting an user page has on the user account?

None. But joannac could delete the account if that is the wish of the user. -- relet 08:12, 2 January 2012 (EST)

File:200809045910-P1010665.JPG An orphaned file which has some categories, like 'Relet'. Can this go or not?

Totally. -- relet 08:12, 2 January 2012 (EST)

Category:Siege_Engine I am not sure if the pages in the subcategory are still relevant, but if they are I suggest moving Category|Trebuchet to Category:Fun stuff and removing this root category. Whadayyathink?

I only checked a small subset of the suggested expedition pages, and all the other pages. I don't object deleting them. I also browsed trough the media, but i'm too lazy to check them all. of course, storing orphaned pictures or duplicates is a waste and it looks like someone did a great job to sort all those out. thanks a lot! -- NeThuS 04:06, 4 January 2012 (EST)
