Proposed: This category should be used for geohashers who are willing to be advocates for the sport, answer questions from newbies, or for recognizing geohashers who've done something useful. I agree. What we need is more like a "Category: Geohashers who won't shout at you for asking questions" than a question of importance. Er... could somebody come up with a better name? "Category: Mentors" already sounds self-important and implies some kind of superiority, so anti-hierarchical Calamus doesn't like it. --Calamus 16:49, 12 January 2014 (EST)

I thought about this for a few days before my vocabulary came back to me. I was thinking "Geohashing Ambassadors", but that will probably cause confusion with the Ambassador Achievement. "Senior Geohashers" also came to mind. Honestly, I don't think there will be an elegant way to make it easily known that these folks are knowledgeable and here to help without making them sound more important than the average geohasher. Isn't that kind of an insult? As I understand it, it means "ex-murderer" and stems from the Latin word for "of old age". Who'd want to be tagged like that? Also, the has-been aspect remains.

My personal favorites are Geohashers who won't shout at you for asking questions' and Well done geohashers. But another thing: I find we probably should find 'well done geohashers' with different nativ languages to make it even easier for starters to join the community. So far liking "Geohashing agony aunts" the best since it is more reflective of someone into and willing to help, answer qns rather than someone better! As previously mentioned, hashing is for all. Something a bit on the more fun side and reflective of a passion (obsession? noooo) for geohashing might also be closer to the spirit of hashing! Like..

This talk began in 2014; as it is 2016 now, how about a voting? Personally I like GeoTutors best: it is short and clear without putting too much weight on it. Some of the other ones seem vague to me in the eyes of newbies. If I'd been looking for someone to help out I certainly wouldn't think that Mostly Harmless Geohashers or Aunts are the right ones for my questions. Burgman (talk) 07:40, 1 January 2016 (EST)

A bit late to the party here, but I support the notion of categorising Geohasher Advocates (I will be starting a University course in September 2018 and plan to start a Geohashing society if I am able to, so it might be good to have a place to document any examples of places where Geohashing touches the outside world so to speak, if you'll excuse the irony). I would also like to add that I think the term Advocate is a perfectly fine one that describes the role perfectly but I'm not ultimately fussed on what term is chosen as long as it clearly communicates what it means and brings a positive addition to the community. If my University accepts the society proposal, I am considering creating a Wiki account for the society¸ and the User Page for that account might likely be a good place to provide information and details about the society.
