This graticule is at latitude 49, longitude 8 and is one of Germany's most active. It contains the Rhein-Neckar-Triangle, a densely populated region around Mannheim and Heidelberg. Mannheim is not only the graticule's largest city (it's the second-largest city in Baden-Württemberg after the capital Stuttgart), it is also located in the exact center of this graticule.
It includes the southern half of Mainz (the capital of Rheinland-Pfalz) as well as the northern portion of Karlsruhe and contains large parts of the Odenwald in the east.
Statistically, once every three years a hashpoint hits France in the most southwestern part of the graticule. Since the beginning of geohashing in 2008, this has not happened yet.

- 2008-11-28: Located near Karlsruhe in the forest. Fluxkompensator and a friend were there late in the evening.
