Plans

NWoodruff's code again alerted me to this amazing location. I originally planned to get it right after work, but then was spontaneously invited to beer in my neighborhood with an old friend and his people. So it had to be a very late night expedition.

Elipongo and Sputnik both wished they could make this point too, but were otherwise busy.

Expedition

By about 10:30pm (I think?) I had had four or five pints, and a great time, but was starting to feel past-peak so used the geohash as an excuse to call it a night with that group (the irony of this would not be realized until later.) Got on the subway half drunk, I remember it arrived uncannily quickly. Quite soon I reached Brooklyn Heights (Clark St stop on the 2 3), and walked down a narrow street filled with nicer restaurants and then a wide arterial road paralleling the elevated Brooklyn Bridge to the intersection of the hash. The hash was actually on a cross street leading directly under the bridge, so really cool pictures were possible from the point.

Just a few storefronts from the hash was a bar, on the corner of the arterial. I was excited because though I had gotten the Pub Geohash back on 2013-05-25 47 -122 I had never quite considered it legit, because the place Thom and I drank at was really a pizza restaurant that also happened to serve beer, not a proper bar. I decided I had it in me for one more drink tonight and headed in. It was a really interesting place, kind of a hip, fancy Mexican bar, elaborately decorated and mirrored, but with many non-Mexican patrons as well. It turned out it was closing in one hour, but that was plenty of time. I looked at the menu, and noticed a number of interesting mezcal drinks. I don't remember why I picked the specific one I did.

Unfortunately (or fortunately), this cocktail turned out to be quite large and almost pure mezcal... it was one of the most alcoholic single drinks I've ever purchased. By closing, I had finished the thing but I was really, really out of it. Irregularly made my way to the A train, then to Popeye's fried chicken in my neighborhood to try to soak some of it up, and finally home to not-the-greatest night of sleep.

The next day pretty much sucked, but hey, I got the pub ribbon!! Not to mention one last hash in 40,-73 before I moved to 35,-80 a week later.
