Expedition
There was a lay-by beside the A143. A signposted footpath led over footbridge into a ploughed and cultivated field. The farmer had not maintained the field-edge path so his crop got trodden on. There were overhanging brambles, nettles and later some prickly hedge trimmings had not been cleared. On the plus side, there was a useful seedy area for birds and small mammals like field-nice.
The hashpoint was on a woodland access road with bird feeders and water, probably for pheasants which will get shot later in the year. These birds, less intelligent than a hen, are bred for the shooting season. When the birds are released from their pens, many get run over by cars and lorries because they never learn any road sense. Outdoor farmyard chickens rarely get run over. They have more sense.
