In a wheat field between Foxton and Fowlmere, south of Cambridge.
I was interested to see this hashpoint come up, as I knew I had to be in Newton, the next village north of the hashpoint, for work today. That meant it would be easy enough to pop over to the hashpoint on a lunchtime expedition, although at about 1.5 km it was definitely too far for any cubicle geohash awards. So I drove over to Newton, parked up at the end of Town Street, and set off up the public footpath which ran along a farm track over the fields. I've been down here before on a geocaching expedition, so I expected it to be rather overgrown and muddy, and I was certainly not disappointed. Happily, I was wearing some excellent boots and didn't really care if my trousers got wet (which they did) as it was quite hot today.
After a couple of fields the path ran briefly through some woodland and then down the side of another field, before arriving at the road between Foxton and Fowlmere villages. I then walked along this road for a little while before turning off again onto another footpath which ran back to Newton along the side of the field containing the hashpoint. The point was well out into the wheat so I found the point at which a tractor had entered the crops and walked along the flattened tractor tracks so as not to harm any crops. This got me within ten metres of the hashpoint, at which point I delicately walked out into the crops by placing my feet carefully between the rows of wheat -- there was just enough room not to break anything if I turned my feet sideways. After a few metres of this I found myself at the hashpoint, where I took photos and then retraced my steps back to the footpath. I then followed this new path back to the village, ending up just the other side of a house from where I'd started (albeit quite a bit muddier).
Shiny ribbons earned
I definitely get the land geohash ribbon, of course, and also the cubicle geohash achievement "almost honorary mention" because it was about 1.5 km from where I was working that day. The interesting one is the walk geohash -- I believe I fulfilled the wording of the achievement ("you must depart from your residence or place of business and proceed to the geohash by walking, jogging or running") by walking to the hashpoint from where I'd parked my work vehicle, just outside an address in the next village that I was attending for work purposes (which I'm assuming is my "place of business"). But it doesn't seem right to take the walk geohash ribbon for that, so I won't. :-)
