Plans

After work, at some unplannable time of day, visit a GeoVexilla in Cologne, this hashpoint, a GeoVexilla in about 3 km distance, then the mediæval Castle Nideggen geocache. Short stop only, unless there will be others.

Expedition

17:25 ±0m • Vettweiß-Ginnick, county of Düren – Fortunately for me, I had “work” today someplace else, so I thought I could pick up some waypoints (GeoVexilla, GeoHashing) along the route and a bit. Unfortunately, I had a passenger (also known as “mirabilos’ and Turodagnir’s Haustier” since he wants to use neither his GC nick nor his IRC nick here) who was grumbling about this, despite having talked it over before. He also refused to help me by taking any photographies… ☹ But I managed to visit a GeoVexilla before and after the GeoHash (and, earlier, one more plus a wayside Traditional Geocache). Not bad.

On the other hand, I managed to get the GPSr down to ±0m again (no idea if it shows up in the tracklog, I believe it does not cover all secondly NMEA records). As I saw on the æreal photos in the map, this was a boundary between fields, the western one being all grass and thus usable. Did have to cross a creek though (explains some of the walking back-and-forth parallel to the footpath).

There is an actual bistro behind the graveyard, to which the parking lot belongs. But bordering it to the north is a small football (for USA people: "soccer") field, followed by a playground, so it works out. Ah, and using my own geocaching-compatible GPX was a full success as well, and worth getting only 2 hours of sleep last night to be able to get it into usable (and mostly feature-comlete, but not yet covering all waypoint platforms) shape. -- mirabilos (talk)
