On the downhill slope of the west mesa at the far end of Southern west of Rio Rancho
- Redaragorn and 4 yr old son
Had a totally low-key New Year's Eve, but decided not to push the limits of getting to the hash at midnight this year. I'm not sure if we'll get out during the day on New Years, but we really don't have any plans, so I'd say the odds are pretty good. I wouldn't mind making a bit of a tradition of a happy hashing New Years.
Ended it taking off a little later in the morning with the older son and a LOT of winter gear. Temp was right around 20 deg F when we started our hike. Brr. At least we didn't have to worry about muddy roads, although there was a good bit of snow left from the storm the other day and it was brilliantly sunny and beautiful. We picked our way down the dirt/mud slopes, then got onto the spiderweb of dirt bike trails. We found a path that took us more or less directly to the hash, then got off the track to cross a small arroyo and reach the actual hashpoint. We took some pictures there (including one of the little guy with his lollipop that I promised to him once we found the hash). He was...struggling...a little bit with being tired before reaching the hash. He gave out completely about a half mile on the hike up and out, so I picked him up and put him on shoulders for the rest of the way. Whew...that was a workout! We finally got there, though. Victory!
The track is located here.
