Plans

Today is looking fairly busy, but since this one is close and easily accessible, I may try to get over to the NE Heights to catch it. Anybody else feel like meeting up?

Expedition

So it *was* a very long day at work, but I got off a little early (around 5:30) and headed home to meet up with the family. We loaded the kids in the car and headed over to the NE Heights in fairly short order--thankfully the traffic on Paseo was moving the whole way. We got close to the area on Juan Tabo and turned into the parking lot of the small office building north of the arroyo/catch basin/dam that was obviously closest to the hash point on the aerial maps. On driving in we found that there was a fence around the parking lot and lots of signs clearly stating that there was no trailhead parking. Granted, it was a fairly small lot for the size of the building, and it was completely empty since it was after business hours, but we really didn't feel like disobeying the signs *or* hoisting the kids over the fence. We turned out and went to the office building south of the arroyo to park over there (where there were neither prohibitive signs nor fences). It really wasn't *that* much longer of a walk, and there was a road/path almost the entire way around. We climbed the embankment and crossed the really cool looking dam in the dark, chilly evening. I forgot to bring a proper flashlight, so once the road gave out and we were picking our way through the last couple of hundred feet to the hash, I was using my iPhone for a flashlight. Yeeeah. We finally made it there, took a few pictures, and headed back to the car. Fun times.
