About

The day's geohash coordinates were located in a forested area southeast of Walhalla and about halfway between Ludington and Reed City, Michigan.

Expedition

excellentdude: Having successfully completed our first hash attempt of the day in the Grand Rapids, Michigan, graticule, my girlfriend and I proceeded on to the coordinates for the Muskegon graticule. These appeared to be the most challenging coordinates we'd visit during the day as they were in a forested area and not particularly close to any road. It was still cloudy and cool, and as we were nearing the hash it began to lightly rain. My girlfriend informed me that with the national park and a lot of driving still ahead, she was not at all interested in the Drowned Rat Geohash at this time. I can't say I disagreed. When we got to the neighborhood, we found ourselves on some rough gravel roads that traversed land with many owner-posted No Trespassing signs on either side. When we got close, I took a wrong turn, but it only delayed us two or three minutes. Eventually, we were going north on the nearest road trying to find the correct latitude. When we did, we turned into the nearest driveway which happened to be just south of the correct latitude. We nearly missed this driveway because it was quite hidden from the road by trees. When we pulled in, we saw a path extending from the driveway that appeared to lead in the direction of the hash. Though we didn't see any No Trespassing signs at this particular location, it was clearly private property. With that in mind, and especially considering the apparent attitude of the neighborhood, we tried to get permission from the people in the house. There was a newish-looking truck parked at the end of the driveway, so we thought someone might be home. That said, the truck had a lot of junk spilling out the back of the tailgate and looked like it might have been parked there for quite some time. We knocked two or three times, but no one answered. We decided to chalk this attempt up to not trespassing and continue to our next hash attempt. I wanted to get a screen shot of how close we were to the hash off my phone, but I had no signal. Oh well, on to the next hash at the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore!
