A farm in Pornainen. Almost reached by Pafcu at 16:20.
On Friday I decided that I would go geohashing the next day. This was of course before the coordinates were made available. Once I saw the coordinates I was a bit disheartened: 51 km to the hash in my home graticule, 47 km to the one in the Vantaa graticule (according to Google Maps). I decided that such a long trip would require a lot of time, so I decided that I would only go if I naturally woke up before 10 am. "No way am I going to wake up that early on a Saturday!"
On Saturday morning I woke up and took a look at my alarm clock. Past 10. Whew, I can go back to sleep! Next time I wake up and look at the clock it says it's only 9:30. Apparently I was just dreaming the first time :(
Well, a promise is a promise, so I went by the grocery store to pick up some food and then set out on the expedition with my trusty bike.
The journey was actually quite pleasant and took me through several municipalities (Vantaa, Sipoo, Pornainen). It was a beautiful spring day, with not a cloud in the sky. You could also tell spring was here by the number of motorcyclists in the traffic.
Once outside Helsinki the scenery was quite nice. When trying to take some pictures I realised that I had forgot to charge my camera, so I had to use the camera built into my mobile phone. After some "navigational issues" I finally reached the hashpoint. Or almost, at least.
The road I took led to someone's house and there were three angry-looking dogs barking there so I didn't feel comfortable sneaking around there (In Finland you are allowed to walk on other people's property as long as you don't cause disturbances). After rethinking my approach I left my bike about 300 m from the hash and found an alternative route to it. Unfortunately the point was inside a fenced area so I had to stop when I was just 12 m from the hash. Foiled by humanity once again :(
After resting for a while, I set out for my return journey.
