About

The hash is in a housing area at Rottenburg am Neckar.

Expedition: Ekorren

For more than two months had I been waiting for a hashpoint in the 48,8 graticule that was reachable by bike, and finally there was one, only about 40 minutes each way. So I simply had to go. I should have done some repair on the bike first, but this turned out to be more difficult than expected (as the spare parts didn't fit without some rebuilding). So it would have to do as it was (and it did). I left the GPS off this time, as there wasn't any benefit in using it, not even for a proof.

I finally set off at 14:40, as usual a bit later than planned, but early enough to make a detour through the town centre on a quest for hashcards. As I had mostly expected, virtually every shop in the centre was closed at that time of a saturday, and the only cards I could find were with pictures of the cathedral - nice, but not quite the hashpoint. So I finally went to the hashpoint and reached a place at the outside of a fenced private property at about ten minutes to four.

Coordinates reached or not reached? Well, this was difficult to decide. The aerial photo was rather blurred, and as the accuracy doesn't exceed a few metres anyway, the point could just as well be outside of the hedge as inside. Had I used a GPS, it would probably not have been a problem to capture just the right coordinates, as its accuracy is usually even worse.

While I was taking photos, and waiting for 4 pm in case someone else would show up, someone came out of the house asking what the heck I'm doing there. I explained the whole thing, and after some discussion was allowed on the other side of the hedge, but not allowed to make a photo there. So the coordinates are reached in any case - but, for lack of proof, the ambassador achievement failed. Anyway, a few minutes past four I left the location and went home, this time with a detour to near the railway station where a newspaper shop was still open - but this one didn't sell any postcards of the town at all. Bad shop.
