Plans

Usually, I hash in the Madison, Wisconsin area. But we were visiting the folks in Ephrata. They offered to babysit, so Beth and I ran away for the afternoon. The spot appears to be on a hilltop north of Reading.

Expedition

I love driving in PA. Beth does not enjoy riding along. Up and down the hills and around the bends. We bailed off PA61 just north of Leesport and wound up into the countryside. We passed a beautiful old church with a big OLD cemetery. Noted for the return trip. Reaching the spot was really rather easy. It was about 20 yards off the road in an unfenced cornfield, under the high-voltage power lines. Beth took pictures of the rolling farmscapes. We waited for stragglers and then went in search of the customary (for me) Geohashing slice of pie.
The town of Shoemakersville is itself not much to write about. Just north of town on Perry road is the Perry Diner. It was reasonably busy for 4:30pm. The waitress was very pregnant. We had HUGE slices of wonderful pumpkin pie. All in all, a very successful outing.
